Sheila Walsh said this weekend: "There is a difference between the American Dream and the dream God has for us. One is a promise based on marketing. The other is a promise based on the Word of God!"
How awesome is that??? You know, society spends a lot of time showing us beautiful women and men, selling us products to keep us younger, promising us this, that and the other. And yes, God wants us to be happy. But His dream for us isn't to be drop dead gorgeous!! He believes in us. He knows we're beautiful...on the inside...which is what matters to Him the most.
I've spent the last few months really struggling over my own dreams...what I want to do, what I believe God has for me...and it's been frustrating! I knew a change was on the way...I just didn't know what.
Well, the weekend has brought about many changes! I haven't taken all of them...yet anyway! I still have plenty of praying and thinking to do! I have a million questions and almost as many fears.
I try not to fear failure. I've been spending the last few years reminding myself that failure is when you don't try something. And I don't want to spend my life saying, "I wonder what would have happened if I had tried that." God has blessed me with many things...and even a few talents. And if He wants to use them, then who am I to argue, right?
But that doesn't change the fact that I worry about those things. I worry if I'll be good enough in the position He put me in. I worry if I'll have someone to share all of those things with in the years to come. I worry if I screw it up, what will others think of me? (That's usually the least of my worries but it's still there.)
God has a dream for my life! Several!!! Just because I'm doing something today, trying something today doesn't mean God will have me doing it for the rest of my life. But for right now, God has an amazing dream for me. A scary one but amazing nonetheless. And it's not the one society has for me. Heck, half of it isn't something I ever imagined myself doing. But if anyone can do it, God can!!! So let's see what's He's got for me during this phase of my life!!!
