On top of being a lover of Christian fiction, I LOVE music! And I love almost everything (except country...yuck). If you know me well, you know I'm a huge Clay Aiken fan!! But my favorite group (at least for the moment) is Casting Crowns. They're a Christian group and if you've ever heard them, you know exactly what I mean when I say that these songs are messages. Mark Hall, the leader of this band, is a youth pastor and almost all of his songs have been written as messages for his youth group...but definitely messages we all need to hear!
I can't pick one favorite Casting Crowns song because I'm a big fan of almost every one. But Your Love is Extravagant is definitely towards the top of my list. I've included it on this page so you can hear it (should be on your right...already playing) and here's the lyrics:
Your love is extravagant
Your friendship, it is intimate
I feel like moving to the rhythm of Your grace
Your fragrance is intoxicating in our secret place
Your love is extravagant
Chorus: Spread wide in the arms of Christ is the love that covers sin
No greater love have I ever known
You considered me a friend
Capture my heart again
Spread wide in the arms of Christ is the love that covers sin
No greater love have I ever known;
You considered me a friend
Capture my heart again
Your love is extravagant
Your friendship, it is intimate
I just finished a book entitled Savannah by the Sea by Denise Hildreth and towards the end, she talks about falling in love...but not just the love between a man and a women but falling in love with God the way He loves us. And living life that way. Do we live a life where everyday we love with no expectations...where we give everything we have (even if it's never returned)...where we open our arms as wide as they'll go...where we give of our hearts intimately...just the way God does us? He has no expectations. He doesn't hold back in His love for us. He just loves...extravagantly. Can you imagine loving people everyday like that? Yes, we all have someone in our lives that we say we love that way. But I mean everyone and everything. That's what God does for us. Doesn't matter what we've done or who we've hurt...He loves us extravagantly. How awesome would it be to love without being afraid of what may happen? Or loving whether we're loved back or not.
This is one of those songs I'll play over and over again in the car. It's a beautiful worship song...just between me and the Lord. And it really does help build on that relationship with God. How can you not want to have a personal, intimate relationship with Him when you're listening to this?
So think about it...thinking about living your life loving extravagantly...the way God loves you. Maybe someone else who doesn't feel that extravagant love from God will now feel it from you. And I have a feeling that you'll feel it as well! :-)
