This may seem like something silly to post but oh well. It brought a smile to my face and I wanted to share! I take a small group of latchkey kids to school every morning. While in the van, I'm either playing YesFM on the radio (a Christian radio station) or one of my CD collections. I usually stick with Christian music. I just think the kids should be hearing something positive. I'm not against secular music. I LOVE IT!! But I shouldn't be the one letting someone else's kids listen to it. Plus the Christian music helps me!
Anyway...I usually play the same CD. The kids have fallen in love with Give Me Your Eyes by Brandon Heath. It's one of my favorites! And most of the kids will sing along when it gets to the chorus. One little girl will sing almost the entire song. We have one little boy though...well, I don't want to sound mean but he is honestly a little slow. Very sweet little boy though. I know he hears the songs everyday but he's never really sang along.
Then came Monday. He was singing very quietly in the back. But it was hard to tell if he was singing plus he waited til the first group of kids got off of the bus. Then yesterday morning I put in a different CD. I didn't figure the kids would like it. The music was a little slower but it was some songs I really wanted to hear. The one little girl tried singing along even though she didn't know the words. But otherwise, the kids were pretty quiet...until I dropped off the first group of kids. Then this certain little boy just starting singing to his little hearts content! I just smiled. I wanted to laugh. Not because he was funny but because that's just the kind of joy he truly brought to my soul!!! He was enjoying the music and wanted to sing along...even if he didn't know the words!! It was so cute!!
Then he did it again this morning!!! I couldn't stop smiling!!! I was telling a friend about it. I was hoping that he'd do it again this afternoon. I don't usually pick up the kids from school but because another co-worker couldn't, I made the run. This little boy was pretty quiet at first. All of the kids were. Then out of nowhere he started singing loudly again! And my friend was with me so she got to hear it first hand! It brought a smile to her face as well.
I know it seems like a silly thing to post about it but here's a child...who probably can't truly remember all of the words to the song but doesn't care. He wanted to sing it anyway! It brought joy to his soul!! It's just of those things that's so easily looked over a lot. We tend to miss out on moments like that because we're too busy for regular life. But I'm glad I didn't miss this. It truly brought a smile to my face. It didn't matter who was around, what was going on, he was going to praise the Lord anyway! And no, there's a good chance that he wasn't thinking about it that way but that's the way I thought about it. And I loved every minute of it!!! I hope he sings his little heart out again tomorrow!
