I'm in the blogging mood today! I think it's cause I've been stuck in the house all day. Ugh. Anyway...I was reading through my journal...which I haven't written in in over a year (for many reasons). In a way, I'm glad. But that's not the point. I came across this journal entry I wrote on 12/31/07 at 2:28am (when I do the majority of my thinking). I don't know if I ever posted it as a blog but oh well if I did. I want to repost it.
Definition of BLESSED:
1a: held in reverence
1b: honored in worship
2: of or enjoying happiness
3: bringing pleasure, conententment, or good fortune
...while watching Freedom Writers, the character played by Hillary Swank (Ms. G) says, "blessed with these burdens." Really? Do I feel blessed by my burdens? Most of the time, NO. Especially while i'm in the middle of them for sure! And a I think about the burdens and struggles of those around me, I doubt they're feeling blessed.
But God gives us this:
Matthew 5:3-10
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.
My Message Bible says things like this:
(3) You're blessed when you're at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and His rule.
(4) You're blessed when you feel you've lost what is most dear to you only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.
(5) You're blessed when you're content with just who you are - no more, no less. That's the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can't be bought.
(That was is my favorite!)
WOW!! God has blessed me for me - including my burdens, hurts and failures. And once I'm content with everything I am and everything I'm not, how truly blessed I'll be!
