I don't usually share my actual journal entries with you. I think that for the most part, that's sharing a little too much of my personal info with the world! But I have to share this with you. I wrote this on New Year's Eve. Well, I guess New Year's Day really. It was 2:28am!
Definition of BLESSED
1a: held in reverence
1b: honored in worship
2: of or enjoying happiness
3. bringing pleasure, contentment, or good fortune
I decided that since letters didn't go out with my Christmas cards this year, I'd write to everyone and make a video of pictures to go along with it. While I was putting the video together today, the word "blessed" came to me so I used it! I gave it a little thought - I AM blessed. I have so many things to be thankful for! More than I can even name!
But while watching Freedom Writers (excellent movie by the way), the character played by Hillary Swank (Ms. G) says at some point "...blessed with this burden."
Really? Do I feel blessed by my burdens? Most of the time, NO. Not while I'm in the middle of them, that's for sure! And as I thinka bout those around me and the things going on in their life, I doubt they feel blessed most of the time. I'm not talking about the regular everyday struggles either. These people are dealing with things we hope to never experience in our life! Do they still feel blessed?
But God gives us this:
Matthew 5:3-10
"Blessed are the poor in spiritfor theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are teh meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteiousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.
My message Bible puts it like this for some of the verses:
(3) You're blessed when you're at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.
(4) You're blessed when you feel you've lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the one most dear to you.
(5) YOU'RE BLESSED WHEN YOU'RE CONTENT WITH JUST WHO ARE YOU - NO MORE, NO LESS. THAT'S THE MOMENT YOU FIND YOURSELVES PROUD OWNERS OF EVERYTHING THAT CAN'T BE BOUGHT.
(That's my favorite one!)
WOW! God has blessed me for me - including my burdens, hurts and failures! And once I'm content with everything I am and everything I'm not, oh, how truly blessed I'll be!!
